What does Google Ads cost in Sweden 2026?

Click prices by industry, three fully worked budget scenarios and the costs that rarely show up in the calculation.

Google Ads has no fixed price list — you pay per click, and the click price is set in an auction for every single search. In Sweden most click prices fall between 3 and 150 kr depending on the industry, and a service business gets seriously started from roughly 5 000 kr in monthly budget. The full calculation, however, has more line items than the clicks: a management fee or your own time, a landing page and tracking. Here are all the numbers in one place.

Short answer: the costs in one table

What drives the click price?

The price per click is decided in real time by two things: how much competitors are bidding on the same search, and how relevant Google judges your ad and landing page to be (Quality Score). High quality discounts your bid — an ad with better relevance can rank above a competitor bidding more. Beyond that, the price varies with:

  • The keyword's purchase intent — "roofer stockholm price" costs more than "how to lay a roof", because the click is closer to a purchase
  • Time and day — the same click can cost differently on weekday mornings and Sunday evenings
  • Device and location — mobile in the inner city is priced differently from desktop in a rural area
  • Season — ahead of your industry's peak season, bids climb as everyone advertises at once

Click prices by industry — benchmarks 2026

The ranges are based on Swedish accounts we work with and keyword data from Ahrefs. Individual keywords can deviate sharply — legal niches in Stockholm have keywords above 200 kr per click.

Three budget scenarios worked through to cost per lead

Assumptions: 20 kr average CPC (service business) and a landing page that converts 5% of visitors into enquiries. Five percent is a good but entirely reachable level for a focused page — the range in service industries is 2–5%, and that figure feeds straight through to the calculation.

Monthly budgetClicksEnquiries (5%)Cost per lead
5 000 kr~250~12~400 kr
15 000 kr~750~37~400 kr
50 000 kr~2 500~125~400 kr + scaling effects
15 000 kr, but 2.5% conversion~750~19~800 kr

Notice that the cost per lead is roughly the same in all three scenarios — the budget controls volume, not efficiency. Efficiency is controlled by how well the account is run and how well the landing page converts. The last row of the table shows how hard that hits: halving the conversion rate doubles the cost per lead without anything in the campaign changing. At larger budgets, scaling effects cut both ways: more data makes optimization better, but the cheapest searches run out and marginal CPC rises. Always work backwards from your customer value: if you close every third enquiry and a customer is worth 15 000 kr, the numbers already hold at a 5 000 kr budget.

The costs many leave out of the calculation

  • The landing page — sending ads to a slow or cluttered page halves your conversion rate and thereby doubles your cost per lead. Often the best investment before the first krona of ad budget.
  • Tracking setup — without correct conversion tracking in Analytics 4, both you and Google's AI optimize blind. A one-off effort that pays for itself every month.
  • Your own time — 4–8 hours a month for a small account is a real cost, even when nobody invoices it.
  • VAT — Google invoices from Ireland under reverse charge: the invoice arrives without VAT and you account for it yourself in your VAT return. No extra cost, but a common bookkeeping mistake.
  • Google's "smart" defaults — broad match and auto-applied recommendations happily expand your campaign into searches you never asked for. Free to switch off, expensive to miss.

Six measures that lower your cost per lead

  1. Build your negative keyword list every week — it stops the leakage into irrelevant searches, which in neglected accounts eats 20–40% of the budget.
  2. Raise your Quality Score: match the ad copy to the keyword and the keyword to the landing page — better relevance literally earns you a discount on the clicks.
  3. Prioritize long-tail keywords with purchase intent — "book car inspection nacka" costs less and converts better than "car workshop".
  4. Tighten the geography to the area where your customers actually are, and adjust bids per municipality instead of advertising to all of Sweden.
  5. Schedule your ads for the hours when enquiries actually come in — night-time clicks in B2B are rarely worth anything.
  6. Improve the landing page's conversion rate: a clear offer, a form above the fold, load time under 2 seconds. Going from 3% to 6% conversion halves your cost per lead without touching the campaign.

Quick test: open the search terms report for the last 30 days and add up the cost of searches that obviously aren't your customers. That amount — every month — is the price of a neglected account.

If you'd rather have help running it, ongoing management with us starts at 4 000 kr/month at a fixed fee — the setup is described on our Google Ads management page. Curious what the role involves in practice: Google Ads specialist: what do they do — and do you need one?

Common questions about Google Ads costs

What is a good CPC in Sweden?

There is no universal good level — 80 kr per click can be excellent in legal services and disastrous in e-commerce. The right measure is cost per lead against your customer value: if you pay 400 kr per enquiry, close every third one and earn 15 000 kr per customer, even a high CPC is profitable. Always compare CPC within your own industry, not against the average.

Why does my click price rise over time?

Three common causes: more competitors have started bidding on the same keywords (structural — visible in auction insights), your Quality Score has dropped because the ads or landing page haven't been updated, or the campaign has drifted towards more expensive broad matches. The last two can be fixed — start with the search terms report.

Do you pay VAT on Google Ads?

Google invoices Swedish companies from Ireland under reverse charge: the invoice arrives without VAT, and you report the output and input VAT yourself in your VAT return — normally a zero-sum exercise for VAT-registered companies. Always enter your VAT number in the account settings, otherwise Irish VAT may be added.

Can the budget be exceeded?

Per day — yes: Google may spend up to double your daily budget on days with high demand. Per month — no: the total cost never exceeds daily budget × 30.4. If you set 300 kr/day, individual days can land at 600 kr, but the month stops at a maximum of ~9 120 kr.

Is Google Shopping cheaper than regular search ads?

Per click, usually yes — Shopping clicks for e-commerce typically sit at 3–15 kr against 10–80 kr for text ads in service industries. But Shopping requires a product feed in Merchant Center and ongoing optimization of titles and prices, so the total effort isn't automatically lower. For e-commerce, the combination of Shopping plus brand protection in search is almost always the right start.
